Nordlys, the second War Story, feels overly similar gameplay wise to Under No Flag only the scenery is drastically different. The controls are responsive, firing a gun feels forceful, and on Xbox One X, its graphics initially wow you. Opening much like Battlefield 1, with a sombre playable montage proclaiming the horrors of war, Battlefield V makes a good first impression. 3/22/2023 0 Comments Cormac mccarthy the roadmovie![]() ![]() The Road follows a man and a boy, father and son, journeying together for many months across a post-apocalyptic landscape, some years after a great, unexplained cataclysm. “The Road” is directed by John Hillcoat who received international acclaim for his 2005 film which starred Guy Pearce, Ian McShane and Danny Huston. ![]() Oscar winners Robert Duvall and Charlize Theron make brief but resonating appearances. In the movie “The Road” father is played by Oscar nominee, (), and son by newcomer Kodi Smit-McPhee. They have nothing just a pistol to defend themselves against the lawless bands that stalk the road, the clothes they are wearing, a cart of scavenged food–and each other. Their destination is the coast, although they don’t know what, if anything, awaits them there. It is cold enough to crack stones, and when the snow falls it is gray. Nothing moves in the ravaged landscape save the ash on the wind. Stacey D’Erasmo’s most recent novel is The Sky Below (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, 2009).Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winner bestseller from acclaimed novelist Cormac McCarthy (), “The Road” is a post-apocalyptic dramatic thriller about a father and his son walking alone through burned America. It is the most radically secular book I’ve ever read, and it challenges us: Are you willing to lose this, all this that you see around you, for a war, for energy, for a religious belief? Watching the images roll toward us recently from Japan, I felt, because of McCarthy’s novel, that I had seen them before. The Road brings us, essentially, into a kind of near-death experience that renews our deep love of this world, the only one we’ve got. The wooden desk, the tube of ChapStick, the scratching dog, the pile of binder clips, the face of the beloved: We feel tremendous relief that they’re still here, a nearly unbearable pleasure in their ordinary presence. We know what’s missing from the world he describes, because when we raise our eyes from the page, we see it all around us. Every element that McCarthy erases from his landscape-buildings, cars, people, bridges, farms, animals, daylight, music-are immediately summoned up, via this subtraction, by the reader. Yet the magic of The Road lies in what it does to one’s perception of the world as it is, and my hunch is that this is why it was a best seller. You cannot help but want the man and the boy to make it, to want the novel to make it, to want language itself to make it over the abyss. He uses few colors, little dialogue action is pared down to a very limited, exhausted register. ![]() ![]() There aren’t that many things left: a scattering of trees, a road, a man, a boy, ash, a tarp, perhaps a tin can or two of food. McCarthy’s radical simplicity of elements, which seemed mannered to me in his other fiction, is here just the way things are. The Road, however, despite its speculative premise-a father and his small son traverse a postapocalyptic world somewhere in America, heading to the sea in the infinitesimal hopes of rescue there-is perhaps the most visceral novel I have ever read. Prior to The Road, I had little interest in McCarthy’s work-I never could bring myself to care too much about those cowboys and their ponies and all that violence. You certainly can’t make him turn the pages of The Road in about a day and a half, which is what I did. You can lead a horse to the apocalypse, but you can’t make him stand around in it for long without a considerable supply of carrots. That The Road was both a hardcover best seller and a paperback best seller cannot be entirely attributed to its being a pick of Oprah’s Book Club or to its winning McCarthy the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 2007. ![]() 3/22/2023 0 Comments Final fantasy 2![]() ![]() The reason I didn’t like this is because it forces a lot of trial and error, and I found myself forced to return to early areas to make sure I didn’t miss a phrase that I would later need. It’s off putting at first but fine as you get used to it. There’s an odd system wherein you can learn key phrases characters say, and repeat them back in certain instances to either progress the story or find out more information regarding it. There are even a fair number of plot twists, some memorable characters, and fun towns/dungeons to explore. It’s up to these three protagonists to aid the rebellion and fight back against Palamecia in a story that’s surprisingly personable by 8-bit standards. The setting here is a medieval fantasy world with swords and sorcery, and an evil Empire bent on taking over the entire planet. There’s no way to win this, and three of the four protagonists awaken in a rebellion hideout in the city of Altair in the Kingdom of Fynn. Upon naming the main cast of characters you’re thrust right into a turn based battle against all powerful foes. Let’s take a look.įinal Fantasy II starts off on the right foot. Final Fantasy II is one of the worst installments in the franchise, but there’s quite a bit of charm in this original release that was lost in all the remakes. I finally gave in and decided to tackle this rather daunting cartridge release. While I enjoyed this version I couldn’t help but be left to wonder how much better the original 8-bit incarnation was. I was always a big fan of the Final Fantasy series, but this one wasn’t localized for English audiences until it was remade for the Sony PlayStation. ![]() The original Final Fantasy II for the Nintendo Famicom was a game I didn’t find out about until nearly ten years after its release. ![]() 3/22/2023 0 Comments Family meal planning![]() ![]() You can get help from your Nutritionist or Diet Consultant (or give them access to your meal calendar) to make the meal plan if you desire. This is because the data is organised in a consistent manner that a computer can easily access. Data held within a database such as a relational database or a graph database is structured data, as is data held in CSV files (comma-separated values). Of course, because we are dealing with data, it gets more complicated in that there are many different ways of organising data in a structured way. Structured data conforms to a data model, a very well defined way of organising the data that makes the data easy to search and manipulate by a computer. Actually, all data has some structure - it wouldn’t be data without some structure - so this distinction is really a computer’s view of data. ![]() Structured and unstructuredĪnother way to think about data is to consider whether the data is structured or unstructured. ![]() If we intend to perform statistical tests on data it is important to know whether the data is quantitative or qualitative because different tests are used. For example we might be interested in different categories of fish: cod, herring and trout, or about sizes of clothes: xxs, xs, s,m,l,xl and xxl. Qualitative data is data that cannot be represented numerically. The latter is known as continuous because things like temperature are continuous and 20.5☌ makes perfect sense. The first of these examples is known as discrete, as each value is distinct you can’t really have half a person working for a company (and which half, the top half?). Quantitative data, as its name implies, is about data that can be clearly quantified, such as the number of people working for a company, or the day’s temperature. You have to have your teeth in to pronounce these with ease! We are going to talk about broad categories of data, which may be thought of or handled differently, and it’s still complicated! Qualitative and quantitative These various types and ways to talk about data makes data just plain complicated and we’re not even going right down into the weeds to talk about data types – things like integers, strings and floating point. There are lots of different ways to talk about the various data types and how to crumble the cookie. The term ‘data’ tends to be applied to whole data sets or groups of data. So in general usage, it can be used as singular and plural. So true of Latin but English is about as well-organised and well-constructed as the average Excel spreadsheet (for those who rarely, if ever, use Excel, the answer is not very).
